My wife and I are especially worried about him being sedated for the surgery. I'm very glad to hear that your son's surgery was successful. It's always good to hear about how these types of things go. Did the doctor mention that there might be pain and itchiness in the eyes following the surgery? Is that a normal thing to expect?

Re: Aaron’s Eye Surgery

Hi. I was just browsing about exotropia surgery and came across your blog. Hope it's not rude to comment to someone I don't know. My almost 4-year-old had the surgery to correct his intermittent exotropia in both eyes last Thursday. It was a little scary (for me) but he did fine. The worst part was immediately after the surgery when he came out of sedation. He was crying a lot and complaining of pain and his eyes were full of bloody tears. But all that's to be expected. They gave him some more pain med & let me rock him and he settled down & went back to sleep within about fifteen minutes. He recovered for a few hours in the hospital (mostly sleeping) and got progressively better. By the time we left that day he was opening his eyes and they were looking better. The next day he was practically back to normal. He complains occasionally of pain or itchiness, for which we give him Tylenol. His eyes look straight and he has resumed all normal activities and seems fine. They're still very red in the outer corners but I understand that will clear up within 2 to 3 weeks. The stitches dissolve on their own and I expect a good report when we go to our follow-up exam next Monday. Just thought it might help to hear from someone who had been through it successfully. It definitely seems to me it was worthwhile and I pray that your son has a successful surgery as well.
Becky, mom in Ohio

Re: Interview on Wednesday: should I stay or should I go?

Wow, that's a tough spot to be in. Contracts do have some risk but if you know you're good and the company does renew contracts regularly, then it seems like the benefits may be work the risk.

For many companies, contracts are a more meaningful and extended way of putting potential full-time employees through probation. There's a lot of factors to consider like the availability of jobs, company stability and growth outlook, etc.

This is just my take on it -- I'm in no way an employment consultant or anything so please don't sue me if it doesn't work out :D

Re: R.I.P. Like other elements of consumer generated media, the appropriate balance is a personal choice that works for the author /audience and won't be dictated from on-high.

There will always be spambloggers who abuse the system and PPP needs to continually innovate to keep that percentage low/manageable. PPP's recent Beta 2 release looks like a nice step in that direction with a ranking system for bloggers and advertisers. Given the awareness and advertiser/blogger adoption, it's amazing to think they only launched a month ago.

Keep up the good blogging...I'll check back often!

On the topic of people viewing your blog, you might want to check out MyBlogLog. They have an interesting community platform that allows you to actually see/share the faces of those stopping by. You can see an example on the left margin of http://www.floridaventureblog.com (see "I Want My FVB" table). They also provide nice stats on visits, referrals and outclicks.

Re: Defamation?

I agree with your comment Dan. It would make sense that PayPerPost.com would love any and all attention that would come their way, regardless of its tone.

The "professional" bloggers are appearing to be hypocritical because they are being paid to blog but take the standpoint that the masses of hobbyist bloggers (like myself) should not be afforded those same "luxuries". In my case, I'm not trying to use the PPP system (or those like it) so that I can quit my job and just sit around spam-blogging the blogosphere with garbage. Instead, my sole intention is to offset to cost of my hosting, plain and simple. Does that make me evil, as Michael Arrington of TechCrunch suggests? Hardly.

Thanks for the comments Dan. It's always nice to know that some people are viewing your blog.

Re: Defamation?

Actually, as covered across the blogosphere, PPP seemed to relish the attention, negative or positive. Upon reading the various comments since then, it appears the mainstream bloggers didn't appreciate the hypocrisy of the elites.

In fact, I've seen a variety of great parody pictures like the one you created above with the phrase "All Our Blogs Are Belong to Us". I even tried one and donated any proceeds to Red Cross. The beauty of the platform is that PPP provided the parody picture idea, but left the tone up to the bloggers -- leaving it open for people to declare their support for the elite viewpoint. Interestingly, with the exception of those who are still waiting to see if the company pays off, the comment/blog support for PPP appears almost unanimous since the early preaching.

Re: Moved my blog to new domain

Hi ace,

It's been a while, but I finally got things working for me. Following are the relevant lines from my .htaccess:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^oblong\.gotdns.org$ [OR]
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^www\.owened.net$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://owened.net/$1 [L,R=301]
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://owened.net/index.php/$1 [L]

Some of them you will recognise from Wordpress' rules. The three important ones are lines 3, 4 and 8 -- a mate of mine helped me out, and we figured this.

Anyway, just letting you know, and thanks again for your assistance. :-)

Re: Gary Pajcic

Giving back to others is something that we all should and can do in some way, shape or fashion.
